It has been two weeks since our initial visit with Dr. Ball and two weeks since he has done any growth measurements on the girls. This was the day to see what changes were really happening since the surgery. We really had no idea what to expect, but we hoped for the best.
When we arrived here 2 weeks ago today there was a 28% growth differential between the Marys. Ellen (recipient) was that much bigger than Elizabeth (donor). They really look at this before they attempt the surgery and want more of a 20% difference to feel that their is a chance. The good news of the day is that the gap is closing and there is now an 18% difference in growth. Our fragile little Elizabeth is getting bigger! There is still no measurable fluid around Elizabeth and no sign that her bladder is functioning, but Dr. Ball explained that because she was so sick before, she just needs more time to bounce back. According to her growth, she is!
Our concern for Ellen has been that she would have so much pressure on her heart that she might go in to heart failure or develop hydrops and that does not appear to be the case. It could be a blessing that Stacy is leaking fluid. The water leaking is the reason why we are still in Salt Lake………
Dr. Ball said at the end of our utlrasound meeting. “Before there was no chance, now there’s a chance.” PRAISE GOD!
We know that all of the prayers are working! We want to shout to the heavens for this one little bit of favorable news…but do it with caution. We are 24 weeks 5 days and counting……..lets keeps counting! Dr.Ball always says “the best intensive care unit” is inside of mom.
All of our love,
Stacy, Bo and the Marys
