Getting Stronger

It has been two weeks since our initial visit with Dr. Ball and two  weeks since he has done any growth measurements on the girls.  This was the day to see what changes were really happening since the surgery.  We really had no idea what to expect, but we hoped for the best.

When we arrived here 2 weeks ago today there was a 28% growth differential between the Marys.  Ellen (recipient) was that much bigger than Elizabeth (donor).   They really look at this before they attempt the surgery and want more of a 20%  difference to feel that their is a chance.  The good news of the day is that the gap is closing and there is now an 18% difference in growth.  Our fragile little Elizabeth is  getting bigger!    There is still no measurable fluid around Elizabeth and no sign that her bladder is functioning, but Dr. Ball explained that because she was so sick before, she just needs more time to bounce back.  According to her growth, she is!

Our concern for Ellen has been that she would have so much pressure on her heart that she might go in to heart failure or develop hydrops and that does not appear to be the case.  It could be a blessing that Stacy is leaking fluid.  The water leaking is the reason why we are still in Salt Lake………

Dr. Ball said at the end of our utlrasound meeting.  “Before there was no chance, now there’s a chance.”  PRAISE GOD!

We know that all of the prayers are working!  We want to shout to the heavens for this one little bit of favorable news…but do it with caution.  We are 24 weeks 5 days and counting……..lets keeps counting!    Dr.Ball always says “the best intensive care unit” is inside of mom.

All of our love,

Stacy, Bo and the Marys

  1. Prayers and your faith have gotten the twins this far and will continue to increase their chances….as you mentioned back when things didn’t look so positive, WE BELIEVE! Your awesome community of family, friends and folks who don’t even know you will keep on praying each and every day. Blessings to all four of you in SLC!

  2. and hope does not dissapoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans:5

What a sweet sound to hear! It looks like God is hearing all of the prayers being sent your way. Oh how we wish we could give you a big hug right now. We know that there is a long road still to be traveled, but good news along the way makes it that much better. We will continue to stay hopeful and keep saying our prayers!

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise, his greatness no one can fathom Psalm 145:3

  4. Praise God indeed! I know our Blessed Mother continues to take our prayers to God and give her thanks as well. We are grateful for each awesome blessing He grants on this journey. As my class enjoys contemporary Christian music and since the Dove awards were last night, I think we’ll praise God with a round of Awesome God today, or perhaps another song of Nicky’s choice today. Please know we continue to lift you all in prayer daily!
    Love, hugs & blessings,

I am crying I am so happy for you…my kids are looking at me funny…made me laugh but I explained about the Marys and they both said God is listening to our prayers…..so wise these little first graders but they feel connected even more as they see what has happened….and they both agreed they “will continue to pray and that will bring the marys home sooner”……..

  9. Bo & Staci,
You don’t know me, but my son Daniel is friends with your daughter Meagan. I have been reading your up-dates daily. I am currently going through the Team 9 formation process. I was touched by all the people who prayed for me and wrote me letters during my week-end that I didn’t even know, so now I am doing it for you. You are in my paryers daily. I teach fourth grade at Prince of Peace and told my students about your situation. We have been praying for by name you everyday for the past couple of weeks. God Bless you and your family.

  10. How wonderful!!!! I know from experience that prayer truly works and this is another incredible example. I can just imagine the smiles on your faces today. Were are always thinking about you. As soon as the kids and Brad walk in the door from school and work they want an update on Stacy and “The Mary’s”, I can’t wait to give them the news. Your doing great Stacy, hang in there!!!!

  12. My Brother,
Did you catch today’s first reading? It had your name all over it. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. Awesome words. When next I see you I will greet you with a loving kiss.
    In Christ,
    Mike

  15. Blessed is a man that trust in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord. He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out it’s roots to the steam: it fears not the heat when it comes, it’s leaves stay green; in the year of drought it shows no distress but still bears fruit.

  17. I am so happy the discordance is narrowing. It took perspective to see my accidental septostomy as God’s hand taking care of me and my boys, but it seems your leaking amniotic fluid has been a similar blessing, by helping things stay on this path.

Yay for a good appointment and ultrasound.

  18. So glad for the good news. We are all praying for you. Every day is a step forward for your little girls.

  19. Stacy and Bo, It was so great to see both of your faces last night and to see you smiling!! We kept talking about how uplifting it was. Even if it was over a computer, you both look so happy and peaceful. Whata great witness to the presence of the Holy Spirit there with you! Mike is going to set up a camera at the house for you so you can see and talk to the kids daily!!! We continue to pray for you every day and the kids love praying for “the babies”. We miss you both but are so excited to help you see First Communion tomorrow. What a wonderful gift to help give you! God Bless you all! Love,
    Heather and Mike

  20. Great news about Elizabeth’s strength! Of course, there is no doubt that a Govea would be strong. Wish we could be there to offer our support and help be a distraction, but I hope you feel our presence through our prayers. A side note: I offered a whole wheat, cheeseless, nutty texture stromboli to your parents to help with dinner, surprisingly they passed on the offer. Don’t worry, I will make sure there is one waiting for you when you get home.

  21. Dear Goveas-

We are thrilled to hear that Elizabeth and Ellen are such fighters and are making such progress.
The pictures are amazing- what lovely girls. They are indeed proof that miracles do happen.

You are in our thoughts every day and we wish you continued strength and peace in the coming weeks.

    Peace and Love-
    The Swansons
