Dearest family and friends,

I am so sorry we have fallen behind on our blog.  You know what…….twins is alot of work!:)  But all of our out- of- towners deserve to know what has been up since we got home; after all you have been such  faithful readers and such prayful loved ones . So I am truly sorry for ‘slacking.’

The girls are doing great.  All the doctors that we have followed up with (and that has been ALOT) have commented on how good they look for 25 weekers.  Ellen is….ready for this…..NINE pounds! and Elizabeth is EIGHT.  Still staying within that one pound of each other.  They are gaining about an ounce a day!  That high calorie formula is really doing its job.  Elizabeth is staying strong but really struggles with her breathing.  She came home on oxygen and a feeding tube.  This makes is very hard to get around, especially around the house.  Having two is hard enough, but having one ‘attached’ to a big tank is a little more difficult.  She is very talented at pulling her tubes out and then I have to reinsert.  Not a fun job and she hates it too.  I tell you, this is not for the light hearted and I can see why some choose to wait in the hospital; but 125 days was long enough for us, so we just carry on.  We are still concerned about her eyes.  The laser surgery was just a couple of weeks ago and the doctors are not totally satisfied with the results.  The left eye is going to be fine but the right eye may need additional surgery.  This one would be much more complex and would require us to go back to the hospital and stay…..also, put her back on the ventilator for the procedure.  We are really hoping this does not happen.  They are watching her close and will decide in the next couple of weeks.  Ellen has reached ‘diva’ status and continues to let us know who is boss.  She will scream at the top of her lungs and her face will be bright red; but as soon as you pick her up she is fine.  We have created a monster, but I can’t help it.  She was barely held for four months and I want to make up for lost time.  Meanwhile, Elizabeth sits quietly and sleeps soundly.  The last few days I feel like she has finally ‘woken up.’  She is awake more during the day and has started to look around.  Ellen lays next to her and screams and flails her arms around, while Elizabeth sits quietly and stares.  I wonder…..is she saving her strength for her teenage years?!

I have been struggling to ‘take back my life.’  I am trying to find everything in my house again….lots of people and lots of help = lots of ideas about where things go!:) I am also adjusting to everyones’ fall schedules and ‘back to school’ events.  Its been quite hectic, but don’t think I am complaining.  I am so thankful to be home and so thankful to be a family again.  One look around at all my ‘gifts’ and it quickly brings a smile back to my face.

To add to our ‘eventful’ life, Bo is starting his own agency.  Govea Insurance Agency will be official in the next few weeks.  He is going out on his own and will be selling personal lines and small business insurance.  He is very excited and is ready for this new venture…….wish us luck!  And let us know if you need a quote on your home or small business.  The website is still under construction but has contact information  www.goveainsurance.com

Lastly, we are going to have the girls baptized next weekend!  I know this will not happen without many tears, as I am still so emotional from this journey.  But these will be the happiest tears shed thus far and perhaps I will finally feel that ‘relief’ I have been waiting for.  Throughout this journey I have had many daydreams about this special day and I cannot wait for them to meet our gracious and loving community.  The ceremony will be Sunday September 28 at the 10:00 mass at Ascension and ALL ARE WELCOME!

Love to all and I will try to do better on my updates!

Stacy

  1. Thanks for the update. You are still talked about in the NICU at St. Mark’s often! We will keep you in our prayers for your girls still… especially for Elizabeth’s eyes. Let us know how that goes.

  2. So I think the attendance at that 10 oclock mass will compete with Christmas eve kids mass!!!!
They are beautiful…your family is beautiful and so blessed! Speaking as a twin mom..albeit very different situations…the first year is deleriously busy…but it goes by so quick…then they are walking..or running….in two ifferent directions…so enjoy now…there is that famous twins question “do twins run in your family?” …and the answer is only when we are chasing them!!!
Bo and Stacy..yours is a story of hope for all TTTs and preemies and the testament of faith and prayer…our God is so good.
    Peace

  8. Stacy,
Thank you for your post, I was really missing you all! It is wonderful news to hear how well the girls are doing. I will continue to pray for Elizabeth’s eyes and breathing but I am so happy that she is catching up to Ellen. I know it must have been quite an adjustment coming home after being away for so long and with twin babies nontheless!!! Everything will right itself given a little time so cut yourself some slack and enjoy the wonderful chaos of the Govea family!
    Love,
    Brandy

  10. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access (by faith) to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5

The picture of Bo holding the Twin Mary’s has a very special story which continues to give me great inspiration. Early on the morning of April 11, a few hours before Stacy went into surgery in Salt Lake City, I spoke with Bo. I asked how he was managing the nervous tension. He told me he was practicing. “Practicing what?”, I asked? “I’ve got two blankets folded up, one in each arm and I’m practicing holding Mary Ellen in one arm and Mary Elizabeth in the other”. My eyes filled with tears.

He went on to say a famous basketball coach Jimmy Valvano had his team practice cutting down the net the week before a big game. He told them they had to play the game all the way to the end and have practiced so they know how to play, all the way to the end.

Stacy and Bo, you and your family have played the game all the way to the end and brought two beautiful girls home. The season isn’t over yet, it’s just starting, but you’re valuable players on the Lord’s team. May God continue to bless you and inspire us through your determined game plan. Love, Jerry

  11. That’s such good news… we miss you all around here, but are still so happy that you’re together as a family!
Congratulations on the upcoming baptisms…. we will continue to keep you in our prayers.
    All of our love,
    Ryan, Stephanie, and Avery Hansen

  12. “May the Lord bless you and take care of you;
    May the Lord be kind and gracious to you;
May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.”

I’ve been slacking & not checked the blog for a long time, glad I did, nice to hear about Sunday event…at Ascension…wasn’t Sprint Arena available? I expect to see the dove…

    Pray for us… Steve

  13. Happy 5 month Birthday girls!

I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, hope you had a nice day with the family! Tomorrow is your big day. We can’t wait to see the pictures! You both are going to look so beautiful. How exciting that your sister is going to be your Godmother too!
Found this sweet poem for you both for your special day…

    Welcome, precious little children,
    So fresh from God above,
    Baptised today in Jesus’ name,
Held in His arms of love.
May angels guide your tiny feet
And bring you smiles to wear,
    And may our Heavenly Father
Always keep you in His care.

May God bless you both today and always. Wish we were there to share in your special day. We will be praying for both of you and your family.

    We love you!

  14. What a beautiful and moving baptism! Welcome to our family of God and Ascension girls! I heard something special Satruday night, you get two families- one you choose and one that you are born in to. Thank you for choosing Ascension, the CRHP family and everyone who reads this blog as your “second” family.

I am so glad I got to sneak up and watch during the weekend. What a blessing for me, just like being able to pray with you in the chapel! Michelle Gress and I were on a huge high after the baptism. Everyone asked about it when we got back to the chapel. Hope you know from all those gathered by the fountain and back of church how much those girls and your family are loved!!!

Thank you again for your daily witness and for allowing all of us to witness the start of these miracles.

    Heather

  16. Stacy and Bo, Bob/I just learned of your story today, through word from Peter (Clune). We read the newspaper article he forwarded and have looked briefly at your blog. What an amazing story! We remember fondly time spent with you all at Lockton meetings, I think particularly of one dinner in California. Christ is the great physician, He came to heal in so many ways–your faith and courage and strength are wonderful examples to all of us. We are so thankful for the progress of your little girls! Bob/Jane Mark, St. Louis

  17. Your girls are gorgeous! We too have identical twins that had TTTS. Our boys were 27 weekers. God works in wonderful ways. I will continue to follow you and your family if you don’t mind, and send prayers your way for healthy and happy lives.

  18. Hope all is well with all of you. Would love to see some new pictures of the girls. Take care and you all are still in our prayers and thoughts. Love Kerry
